Overview:

Thumbnail Gallery Maker creates TGPs (Thumbnail Gallery Pages) automatically from source files you supply. It will take a subdirectory of graphics and create final thumbnails and resized high-resolution images from them. It then flows these final images into a template you select and creates a static HTML gallery that can be uploaded to other servers. The Final Gallery is completely stand-alone with no dependences on any files from anywhere else on the Internet.

Template settings are customizable with many configuration settings. Some templates are made that include watermarked logos that are composited onto the final high-resolution images.

Some templates are made to optionally include places for banner ads and reciprocal links.

Terminology:

Final Gallery — This is the completed TGP appropriate for launching on remote servers. It includes the HTML file with all its media as well as the gallery's Info File.

Launched Gallery — These TGPs have been uploaded to remote servers. Launched Galleries can be managed if they are located on servers contained in the FTP Site Manger.

Source Subdirectories — These folders contain image and video files that will be used to create Final Galleries.

Source Folder — Source Subdirectories that are ready to be made into Final Galleries are uploaded and stored here.

Archive Folder — The archives are a place to move Source Subdirectories after Final Galleries have been created. Moving files into the Archive Folder keeps the Source Folder clean but keeps the files on the server for future use.

Info File — Within each Final Gallery, a file named info.php can be found. Viewing this file from a Web browser will show all that gallery's pertinent info for TGP submission including names, number of images, included submission thumbnails, creation and launch dates, and final launch location. The Review Galleries function links to the Info File on locally-hosted galleries and the Review Launched function links to the Info File on remote galleries.

File preparation:

  • On your local computer, make a subdirectory for each gallery that will be created. This will hold all the gallery's assets. The name of the subdirectory will be the name of the Final Gallery.

  • For efficiency, all high-resolution graphics should be resized to manageable file sizes. It's suggested they are to be resized to the gallery's high-resolution image final dimensions or slightly larger. Keeping the high-resolution source images oversized will result in longer upload times and longer gallery creation times.

  • If you would rather include pre-made image thumbnails rather than have TGP Maker make them for you, include them alongside the high-resolution images and name them with a "s_" prefix. (optional)

  • TGP submission sites will require at least one special-sized small thumbnail. Put these submission thumbnails in each of the Source Subdirectories. Name the submission thumbnails with a "thumb_" prefix. The submission thumbnails will be copied along with the Final Gallery and can be reviewed in the gallery's Info File. Example filenames: thumb_88x88.jpg, thumb_90x120.jpg. (optional)

  • Include any video files that the gallery template requires. Review the template's notes to see how included video files are to be named, formatted, sized, etc. (optional)

  • Once the Source Subdirectories are created and filled with files, upload them to the server via FTP. Login with a FTP client and upload all Source Subdirectories into the Source Folder (See details below)

  • Once uploaded, the files are available as source files for TGP Maker to use.
